Tool Autopsy — Innovation Engine

What was built

Ethan has ~400 custom tools but no idea which ones are actually firing versus quietly dead. This scans every tool in ~/.claude/tools/ (or wherever they live), cross-references last-execution timestamps from systemd journal + cron logs + shell history, and emails a weekly 'autopsy' listing tools that haven't run in 60+ days alongside their nearest living cousin — so pruning becomes a one-line decision instead of an archaeology dig.

How it works

Create ~/.local/bin/tool-autopsy: (1) enumerate tools via `ls ~/.claude/tools/` and `systemctl list-units 'service:*'`; (2) for each, grep last invocation from `journalctl --since '90 days ago' -g ` and ~/.bash_history mtime scan; (3) bucket into ALIVE (<14d), FADING (14-60d), DEAD (60d+ or never); (4) for DEAD tools, fuzzy-match name prefix against ALIVE tools to suggest the successor that likely replaced it (e.g. machine-load-monitor.pre-phase2 → machine-load-monitor); (5) pipe report through `send-formatted-email` to Ethan weekly. Add systemd timer at ~/.config/systemd/user/tool-autopsy.timer, Sundays 08:00. ~80 lines of bash. Complements existing tool-graveyard-reaper by adding the successor-mapping insight rather than just reaping.
